Dance Teams

The Ballet Westside Competition Team

The Ballet Westside Competition Team (formerly the Ballet Westside Performing Company) was created in 1986 for students who wish to further their dance ability and to perform. Auditions are held each June for new members and for the placement of current members. Interested students must be at least 9 years of age, have an interest in dance and a determination to succeed at dance. Placement is based on ability and best fit within a group. Auditions are also held for solos, duets and trios. Competition team members are required to attend a minimum of 2 lessons per week plus any special rehearsals that are called.

Competition team members make trips to various dance seminars and dance-related functions. The goal of the Ballet Westside Competition Team is to let the more serious student realize his or her potential by performing and competing, as well as observing the art of dance. These students work very hard at their art and have become very well known throughout the area.

The competition team has performed at the Magic Kingdom and Epcot Center at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, aboard Premiere Cruise Line's USS Oceanic in The Bahamas, and has competed at a regional level in Kansas City, Joplin, Tulsa, Little Rock, and Branson and at a national level in Las Vegas, Orlando, Hot Springs, New York City, Chicago, and North Charleston.

Former competition team members have gone on to dance at the collegiate and professional level in Las Vegas, the American Spirit Dance Company, for Carnival Cruise Lines, 1st runner up for Miss Arkansas, Miami Dolphins Cheerleader, performed in the Mississippi Love Show in Branson, in the traveling Broadway shows Bring It On, Saturday Night Fever, and Grease, and most recently "Sonny" on Fox TV's Grease Live. Most of the area dance studios are owned or staffed by former company members.
